The Internet of Things (IoT)
I spoke at an event in Orlando this week on the topic of the Internet of Things impact on the utilities, telco, and data centre industries. I'm including the slides here in case you want to check them out. I made the case in the talk that IoT is driving a need for edge computing. Then this morning I see that IBM and Cisco have come to the same conclusion - it's cool to see that we're on the same page :)

Energy
Mixed news in the energy space this week as we see that renewables are surging globally - so much so that in Chile, the cost is falling to zero. This is bad news for the generators, obviously, but fortunately as it is as a consequence of poor distribution planning, it is eminently fixable
Renewable energy surges to record levels around the world — www.bbc.co.uk The world added far more renewable energy sources than fossil fuels in 2015, with developing countries overtaking richer nations on green spending.

CleanTech/Misc
Two really interesting reports were published this week - the first is Mary Meeker's 2016 Internet Trends report. You can watch the video of her releasing the report in the link below, or simply check out her slides on Slideshare (they're mostly self-explanatory)
The second report is the Ericsson Mobility Report 2016 which is just chock full of great information about the trends in the mobile space. Do have a look, some of it is really fascinating

Climate
And in climate related news, it seems we're getting closer and closer to having a summertime ice-free arctic
Arctic sea ice set a record low every single day in May — mashable.com Strange things are happening in the Arctic, where sea ice keeps plummeting to record low levels.
